Background:  OSM in conjunction with the Interstate Mining Compact Commission (IMCC), National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs (NAAMLP), and the Western Interstate Energy Board (WIEB) is organizing  a conference on “Incorporating Geospatial Technologies into SMCRA Business Processes”

Topics Covered:  This conference is aimed at demonstrating the use of geospatial technologies in the SMCRA business processes. 

Target Audience:  State and federal agency personnel who are involved with the application of geo-spatial terchnology in mining operations.

Int   Intererstate Technical Group on Abandoned Underground Mines (ITGAUM),
             7th Biennial Meeting,  
Kansas City, MO

Background:   The theme for this meeting will be "Mine Planning and Remediation -- Foundation for the Future."  We are actively seeking participants among state and Federal agencies, consultants, mining companies, and other interested parties who possess interest in, or practice methods of addressing abandoned underground mines needing remediation and closure.

Topics Covered:  abandoned underground mine remediation, abandoned mine detection by geophysical means, and state-of-the-art mine practice

       American Society of Mining and Reclamation, 25th Annual Meeting,
           Richmond, VA

OSM EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY

Background:   Richmond, Virginia, home of the USA’s first commercial coal mine, will host the 25th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Mining and Reclamation.  In addition to ASMR’s historical concentration on coal and metal mining applications, this meeting’s program and field trips will focus on remediation of other disturbances such as exposure of acid-sulfate materials, mineral sands mining, dredge spoil placement, and wetland impact mitigation.    This conference will provide an opportunity for scientists, researchers, regulators, and mining and reclamation personnel to exchange information, share ideas, and meet together.

Topics Covered:  Innovations in Revegetation; Plant Community Diversity; Forestry; Landscape Stability; Below ground evaluation of reclamation success; Reclamation Success Evaluation Case Studies; Bond Release Case Studies; Coal Bed Methane Water Utilization/Disposal; Reclamation of Land Impacted by Coal Bed Methane, Natural Gas, and Oil Production; Acid Mine Drainage Impacts; and Reclamation of Hard Rock Mining Abstracts due September 30, 2006.

Target Audience:  Industry reclamation managers, researchers and technical staff, consultants, state and Federal agencies' natural resource and reclamation staff.
