 ScienceFest 2007

Tulsa Field Office representatives Jeff Zingo and LaChelle Harris assisted the Oklahoma Department of Mines (ODM) at ScienceFest 2007.   ScienceFest is an annual event held at the Oklahoma City Zoo for school children to learn about science and the protection of natural resources.  About 4,000 fourth and fifth graders arrived on 65 buses and participated in the event.  The children represented many different schools throughout the region.

The students were able to participate in 23 different environmental activity stations.  ODM’s Outreach Coordinator Stacy Barnett and ODM personnel Linda Landon, Matt Moss, Bret Sholar, and Doug Cross established an activity station named “Mining for Marbles”.  The station was designed to give the students a general understanding of the mining process.  The students would mine for marbles, process their material, and could cash it in at the market station for prizes.
